In our modern, instant gratification culture, food and drinks are everywhere. No matter where I go, in every social situation, it seems someone is always offering me something to eat. Usually it’s a polite gesture of welcoming or a way of making contact. Sometimes, though, it doesn’t stop there.
“Are you sure you don’t want a piece of cake?”…
“Come on, live a little”…
And the dreaded “I insist!”…

You try to decline, but all your words fall on deaf ears. All of a sudden you can find yourself awkwardly confronted with what I call a Food Pusher. The ones who won’t take No for an answer.
I’m not sure why they do it. Some people seem to have a deep need not to be turned down for anything. Others just lack social sensitivity or grace. Still others will use you to justify their own food cravings and lack of control. Then there is plain old peer pressure.
From my college days up until fairly recently I’ve worked in restaurants to pay the bills. Along the way I’ve picked up a lot of tricks about food. My friends always asked me how I could stay so fit, how I managed to stick to a healthy diet. Well, I still get asked that a lot, and have written so many emails and instant chat messages I decided to write it all down in one file so I could just send it to them.
So here it is. I call it Diet Self Defense. Whether you’re following a diet now, or trying to maintain your weight after a diet, I hope it can help you a little.
I recently updated my Diet Self Defense report and you can get it here for free by filling out the form below. You'll also be registered for my newsletter.
